Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins announced multiple new USDA support measures for farmers at Minnesota Farmfest on Aug. 4, using one of the nation’s largest agricultural gatherings to address mounting farmer economic anxiety driven by trade policy disruptions.

The announcements directly addressed challenges facing the agricultural sector, including the ongoing financial impact of tariff policies on U.S. farm exports and commodity prices, according to USDA.

Rollins also proclaimed National Farmers Market Week for Aug. 2-8, calling on Americans to support local agricultural producers, USDA said.

Minnesota Farmfest draws thousands of working farmers annually and provides USDA direct access to producers on the ground. The Secretary’s presence at the event is part of the administration’s “farmers first” messaging strategy during a period of significant sector stress.

American farmers have faced declining commodity prices and reduced export volumes as retaliatory tariffs from trading partners have disrupted markets for soybeans, corn, pork, and other major U.S. agricultural products. Farm income has declined in several key production regions.

The USDA support measures are designed to provide financial relief and technical assistance to producers navigating the current market environment, the department said. Specific program details and funding levels were included in the Secretary’s Farmfest remarks.

The agricultural sector has been a pivotal political constituency for the administration, and farmer satisfaction with trade policy has significant implications for Midwestern states critical to the president’s coalition. Farm-state members of Congress from both parties have pressed the administration for additional support measures.
