Illinois Angel Mother Jennifer Bos and a coalition of over 300 Angel Families called on the Senate to confirm Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche’s nomination during the Senate Judiciary Committee’s second day of hearings, according to a July 21 statement.
Bos testified before the committee, saying, “I couldn’t save my daughter, but Todd Blanche, as Attorney General, he might save yours… From the time that I’ve spent talking with Todd Blanche, I knew immediately that he makes victims a priority. Under his direction, the DOJ has engaged directly with the Angel Families and treated us not like political props, but as partners in preventing future tragedies.”
Bos described her meeting with Blanche following her daughter Megan’s death in April. Megan Bos was found dead at age 37 after disappearing for 51 days; Luis Mendoza-Gonzalez, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico, was charged with several felonies related to her death after her body was discovered on his property. Due to Illinois’ sanctuary policies, Mendoza-Gonzalez was initially released but later arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Indiana.
Speaking about her interaction with Blanche and President Donald Trump’s nominee for attorney general, Bos said, “I immediately felt so pulled towards him… He listened to my story very intently, and you could just see his mind ticking like ‘what are we going to do about this?’” She added that while nothing can be done for her own family now that her daughter is gone, she believes Blanche understands what Angel Families endure. “We’re trying to make a difference for people who haven’t been touched by this kind of tragedy,” she said.
Bos also addressed differences among lawmakers during the hearing. She told Fox News Digital that Democrats on the committee had ignored families affected by crimes committed by undocumented immigrants: “You know, before President Trump came into office, Angel Families were inconvenient truths… They didn’t want to acknowledge the damage that was being done by having open borders and by having people here illegally.”
The Senate Judiciary Committee plays a significant role in reviewing legislation affecting constitutional protections and public safety nationwide; it oversees federal law enforcement agencies and evaluates judicial nominations as part of its legislative duties, according to its official website.
Concluding her testimony before senators in Washington alongside border security group American Border Story Action members just one day after Democratic criticism of Blanche’s nomination credentials surfaced publicly, Bos said: “I’m asking the committee not to wait until another mother is sitting where I am. Confirm Todd Blanche,” adding, “He is a leader who will uphold the law, honor victims, confront dangerous criminal organizations, and fight to give other American families safety… I couldn’t save my daughter. But Todd Blanche, as Attorney General, he might save yours because next time, it could be your child. It could be your family. It could be you.”
