News Release: BARTLETT COVE, ALASKA - Glacier Bay National Park and Deputy Superintendent Tom Schaff announced today that the 13-knot “whale waters" vessel speed limit in the lower West Arm is being lifted. New temporary whale waters are being implemented near Garforth, Willoughby, and Francis Islands to reflect shifting whale distribution. News Release: BARTLETT COVE, ALASKA - A temporary closure to foot traffic is in effect immediately at the Scidmore Cut area of the West Arm of Glacier Bay due to a bear incident. This closure will remain in effect until Aug. 30, 2022. On July 30th, a brown bear obtained food from campers at this site. No injuries or property damage were reported.

National Park Service to Search Lakes for Zebra Mussels

News Release: INTERNATIONAL FALLS, MN: The National Park Service will search for zebra mussels in and near Voyageurs National Park from August 2 through August 5, 2022. The effort will include a SCUBA team who will dive to inspect areas of Black Bay on Rainy Lake just outside of park boundaries where the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MN DNR) detected zebra mussel veligers (larval stage of zebra mussels) in 2021. The divers will also search in other park waters.

Alberg is currently the head of the resource management and compliance division at Lake Mead National Recreation Area in Nevada and Arizona and has been serving as Alaska’s acting deputy regional director for the last two months. Nāhuku lava tube closed for structural monitoring and safety
