A member of a group responsible for multiple daytime robberies in the Chicago suburbs was sentenced on July 16 to 15 years in federal prison. Perry Maple, age 23, participated directly in three armed robberies of armored trucks and ATMs between January 2022 and March 2023, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois.
During one incident, Maple drove a stolen car to a bank located in a crowded shopping plaza, where he shoved an ATM technician to the ground and pointed a gun at the technician while stealing approximately $155,000 from the ATM. The robbery occurred on a Friday afternoon with bystanders nearby. In two other robberies, Maple acted as getaway driver. In total, Maple and his co-defendants stole nearly $700,000 during these three incidents.
In June 2024, federal charges were filed against Maple and ten other members of the armed robbery crew for their involvement in eleven armed robberies targeting armored trucks, ATMs, and banks across Chicago’s suburbs. On March 26, 2026, Maple pleaded guilty to federal charges of robbery and armed robbery.
The sentence was announced by Andrew S. Boutros, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois; Ryan Whalen, Acting Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation; and Assistant U.S. Attorneys Elie Zenner and Simar Khera, who represented the government.
“Along with his co-conspirators, defendant repeatedly and violently robbed armed armored truck couriers and ATM technicians at gunpoint,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Elie Zenner said in the government’s sentencing memorandum. “Each robbery was a high-stakes, high-reward robbery, and defendant willingly risked getting into a deadly shootout for the chance at hundreds of thousands of dollars in stolen proceeds.”
