Levi McAlevy, 37, of Cozad, Nebraska, was sentenced on July 17 in federal court in Lincoln for distributing methamphetamine, according to an announcement by United States Attorney Lesley Woods. McAlevy received a total sentence of 360 months of imprisonment from United States District Judge Susan M. Bazis after being convicted on two counts: one for distributing at least 5 grams of actual methamphetamine and another for distributing a mixture or substance containing methamphetamine. Following his release from prison, McAlevy will serve a seven-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
The conviction followed a four-day jury trial held in April. Evidence presented at trial showed that McAlevy sold methamphetamine to a confidential informant working with the CODE drug task force on two occasions in September and October 2024. The first sale involved at least 5.3 grams of actual methamphetamine; the second involved at least 2.8 grams of a mixture or substance containing methamphetamine. In both instances, McAlevy and the informant traveled to various locations before completing the transactions.
Although each individual sale involved smaller amounts, trial evidence demonstrated that McAlevy was responsible for selling more than 25 kilograms of methamphetamine throughout central and western Nebraska. Testimony also indicated that he used firearms and threats to discourage others from reporting his activities to law enforcement.
The case was investigated by the CODE Task Force—a coalition including agencies such as the North Platte Police Department, Lexington Police Department, Dawson County Sheriff’s Office, Ogallala Police Department, Nebraska State Patrol, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and Homeland Security Investigations—covering a 22-county area in west-central and southwest Nebraska.
