Angel Roberto Chavez-Nunez, also known as Angel Roberto Chavez Nunez, pleaded guilty on July 28 to one count of illegal alien in possession of a firearm and ammunition in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Chavez-Nunez, a 33-year-old Cuban national unlawfully present in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, faces up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
The charge resulted from an investigation by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement Division, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Okmulgee County District Attorney’s Office. The indictment alleged that on November 4, 2025, Chavez-Nunez knowingly possessed six rounds of ammunition and one semi-automatic rifle shipped in interstate commerce while being illegally present in the United States.
According to court documents, this case is part of Operation Take Back America. The initiative aims to marshal resources from the Department of Justice to address illegal immigration issues and target cartels and transnational criminal organizations involved in violent crime.
Magistrate Judge Jason A. Robertson accepted Chavez-Nunez’s plea and ordered a presentence investigation report. Sentencing will be determined by a U.S. District Court Judge after consideration of federal sentencing guidelines and statutory factors. Until then, Chavez-Nunez remains held by the United States Marshals Service pending sentencing.
