The United States Department of Homeland Security announced on June 2 that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested several individuals described as criminal illegal aliens in New Jersey over the past week. The department said those arrested included individuals with convictions or arrests for offenses such as voluntary manslaughter, sexual assault, burglary, fraud, terroristic threats, and aggravated assault.

Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said, “While sanctuary politicians and leftist agitators spread false smears about the Delaney Hall ICE facility, the brave men and women of ICE are still hard at work removing criminal illegal aliens from New Jersey. In New Jersey, they have removed dangerous criminal illegal aliens with criminal histories that include voluntary manslaughter, sex assault, burglary, fraud, terroristic threats, and aggravated assault.” Bis continued, “These sanctuary politicians need to stop peddling false smears about ICE detention facilities and start thanking ICE law enforcement officers for getting these thugs off New Jersey streets. We will not let violent rioters slow us down from making America safe again.”

According to DHS information released this week, among those arrested were Marcos Delacruz from El Salvador (convictions for sex assault and fraud), Success Bounte from Ghana (convictions for robbery and burglary), Jose Manuel Rivera-Mes from Guatemala (conviction for voluntary manslaughter), Ismael Antonio Moreno-Javier from the Dominican Republic (arrests for terroristic threats and fraud), Carlos Javier Llano-Batista also from the Dominican Republic (arrests for larceny and robbery), Esteban Pastor Montes Navarro from Mexico (convictions for simple assault), Cesar Augusto Diaz Poveda from Ecuador (arrests for assault), Pabline Patricia Da Silva from Brazil (arrests for burglary), David Benitez from Honduras (convictions including simple assault), and Jacinta Contreras Reyes from Mexico (arrests including domestic violence).

The statement emphasized that these arrests occurred despite ongoing criticism directed at immigration enforcement operations in so-called sanctuary jurisdictions within New Jersey.

No additional context or background was provided regarding ongoing policy debates or legal proceedings related to these cases.
