Diane J. Sabatino reports major drug seizures and K9 safety incidents at U.S. ports

Executive Assistant Commissioner Diane J. Sabatino, who oversees operations for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Field Operations, shared a series of updates on July 16, 2026, regarding recent enforcement actions at major U.S. ports of entry.

In her first post, Sabatino reported a cocaine seizure at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. She wrote on July 16: “STOPPED AT THE PORT JFK International Airport A routine inspection of an international flight arriving from Santiago, Dominican Republic led to an unexpected discovery. CBP officers uncovered 53.94 lbs of cocaine concealed inside aircraft lavatory panels. #OFOproud https://t.co/OYrstG0cOR”

Later that day, Sabatino highlighted another major drug interdiction by CBP officers at the Pharr Port of Entry in Texas. On July 16 she posted, “$11 MILLION IN METH SEIZED Incredible work by @DFOLaredo CBP officers at the Pharr Port of Entry! A K9 team alerted to a tractor trailing hauling a shipment manifested as ‘cabbage,’ but further inspection found 1,173 lbs of meth. #OFOProud https://t.co/X4gHKkIqyw https://t.co/U9xcEL2LgI”.

In a third update on July 16, Sabatino recounted the story of K9 Freddie, a detection dog serving with the Baltimore Field Office: “Last year, @DFOBaltimore K9 Freddie was injured on duty after a passenger kicked him when prohibited items were found in his bag. He recovered & is still serving today protecting US ag. Recently, he alerted to a bag containing toxic Jequirity seeds & African parrot tail feathers. https://t.co/eyUGzJ2ToF”

The Office of Field Operations within CBP is responsible for securing U.S. borders at ports of entry and preventing illegal substances and prohibited items from entering the country.
