Executive Assistant Commissioner Diane J. Sabatino of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) shared updates on CBP operations and activities through her official Twitter account on July 29 and 30, 2026.

On July 29, Sabatino posted about an incident involving the smuggling of live animals: “CBP officers discovered two live parrots hidden in a traveler’s belongings. Not only does this endanger native wildlife, but smuggled animals can carry diseases into the United States.” This highlights ongoing concerns regarding illegal wildlife trafficking and its potential impact on both biodiversity and public health.

The following day, on July 30, Sabatino reported another enforcement action by CBP officers: “During outbound operations, a traveler declared they weren’t transporting firearms. A scan told a different story. CBP officers uncovered 2 firearms, 3 magazines, and 5,227 rounds of ammunition concealed in the vehicle’s spare tire compartment.

This underscores the agency’s continued efforts to intercept undeclared weapons and ammunition at U.S. borders.

Later that same day, Sabatino acknowledged the contributions of specialized teams within CBP: “Dog Days of Summer- Thrilled to meet with Critical Incident Response-Canines (CIR-K9) and handlers from across CBP on Tuesday to highlight the importance of their roles in supporting our workforce. #OFOProud” The CIR-K9 units play a key role in supporting various law enforcement missions conducted by CBP.

CBP is responsible for enforcing laws related to customs, immigration, border security, and agricultural protection at ports of entry throughout the United States.
