Brad D. Schimel, First Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, announced on July 6 that an indictment was unsealed on July 2 charging Ian C. Froelich, age 21, of Green Bay, Wisconsin, with Production of Child Pornography in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2251(a).
According to the indictment, Froelich allegedly caused a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing a visual depiction of that conduct on or about December 31, 2025. If convicted, Froelich faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years’ imprisonment and up to a maximum of 30 years’ imprisonment. The charge also carries up to a $250,000 fine and from five years to lifetime supervised release. He would also be required to register as a sexual offender under state and federal law.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation in Green Bay and Atlanta investigated this case. Assistant United States Attorney Daniel R. Humble will prosecute it.
Schimel said, “An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the government must prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.”
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the U.S. Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse by marshaling federal, state and local resources.
