Robert Hiler, age 54, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, was sentenced on July 24 to 15 months in prison and seven years of supervised release for failure to register as a sex offender. United States District Judge Karoline Mehalchick imposed the sentence after Hiler was found not in compliance with the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.
According to United States Attorney Brian D. Miller, Hiler had previously been convicted in 1995 of indecent assault, indecent exposure, and corruption of minors. These convictions required him to register as a sex offender for life under federal law. From at least June 2019 until January 2025, Hiler failed to register after moving from Pennsylvania to California.
The United States Marshals Service investigated the case and Assistant United States Attorney Michael Scalera prosecuted it.
