MILTON EDILBERTO ESCOTO-GALINDO, age 44 and a native of Honduras, was indicted on July 16 for illegal reentry of a previously removed alien, according to United States Attorney David I. Courcelle. ESCOTO-GALINDO was found in the United States on June 26 after having been removed to Honduras on January 27, 2012.
If convicted, ESCOTO-GALINDO faces a maximum penalty of two years in prison, up to one year of supervised release, a fine up to $250,000, and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.
Courcelle said that an indictment is merely a charge, and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America. The initiative uses Department of Justice resources with goals including addressing illegal immigration and targeting cartels and transnational criminal organizations.
Courcelle praised Homeland Security Investigations and United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement for their work investigating this matter. Special Assistant United States Attorney Rick Veters from the General Crimes Unit oversees the prosecution.
