A Honduran national was sentenced on July 17 to 24 months in federal prison for illegally reentering the United States after deportation. Jose Alfredo Galiano-Meza, 33, pleaded guilty to one count of reentry of a removed alien, according to court documents.
Galiano-Meza will be transferred to federal custody following completion of his current sentence with the Kansas Department of Corrections. In November 2022, he received a 68-month state sentence after being convicted in connection with a fatal automobile accident in Lawrence that resulted in the death of a child.
U.S. Attorney Ryan A. Kriegshauser said, “Mr. Galiano-Meza was deported in 2013 and again in 2018. That was years before his arrest for causing a crash that killed a child. If the U.S. government deports someone, that person is committing a federal crime and a felony by returning to our country without permission from the government.”
Homeland Security Investigations conducted the investigation into Galiano-Meza’s case.
