U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested several individuals convicted of serious crimes on July 21 in various locations across the United States.
According to a statement from Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis, ICE law enforcement officers “work 24/7 to remove the worst of the worst from our communities.” Bis said, “Just yesterday, ICE arrested murderers, pedophiles, violent assailants, and other public safety threats. Nearly 70% of ICE arrests are of illegal aliens who have either been convicted or charged with a crime in the United States.”
Among those arrested were Cornelio Arrellano-Hernandez from Mexico, convicted for first-degree murder in Los Angeles; Yaney Garcia-Ozuna from Mexico, convicted for lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 years old in Livermore; Long Quoc Van Nguyen from Vietnam, convicted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing bodily injury and two counts of driving under the influence in Dallas; Ebrima Sanneh from Gambia, convicted for willful obstruction of a law enforcement officer as well as carrying a concealed gun and attempted trafficking of cocaine and methamphetamine in Gaston County; and Cheikh Assane Diagne from Senegal, convicted for carrying a handgun and trespassing in Washington, D.C.
ICE officials said these actions target individuals who pose significant public safety threats due to their criminal convictions. The agency emphasized its ongoing efforts to locate and remove non-citizens who have committed crimes within the United States.
