Jeremy Black, 52, of Lafayette, was sentenced on July 22 by United States District Judge David C. Joseph to 84 months in federal prison and four years of supervised release for possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.
According to court documents, police stopped Black’s vehicle on March 25, 2025, after observing several traffic violations on Interstate 10. Officers conducted an authorized search and found a black and gray bag containing two kilogram-sized bundles wrapped in brown tape. A field test confirmed the presence of cocaine. Laboratory testing by the Drug Enforcement Administration later verified that the bundles contained 1,999.8 grams of cocaine.
U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Keller for the Western District of Louisiana announced the sentencing.
The case was investigated by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Criminal Patrol Unit and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Assistant U.S. Attorney LaDonte A. Murphy prosecuted the case with assistance from Legal Assistant Christy Angelle.
This prosecution was part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative led by the Department of Justice aimed at eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations while protecting communities from violent crime.
