Eduardo Perez-Calderon, 34, of Mexico, pled guilty in federal court on July 23 to making a false claim to United States citizenship during an employment application process in Morgan City, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Louisiana.
Court documents state that Immigration and Customs Enforcement received information from the Morgan City Police Department about identification documents submitted by an individual seeking employment at a business in Morgan City. The investigation found that on January 5, Perez-Calderon completed a United States Citizenship and Immigration Services Form I-9, falsely indicating he was a U.S. citizen. He also signed the document using another individual’s name and provided a false Social Security number. Perez-Calderon admitted that these actions were deliberate and intended to disobey the law.
U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Keller announced the plea agreement. The case was investigated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement along with the Morgan City Police Department and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Craig R. Bordelon, with assistance from Legal Assistant Tanya Broussard.
The prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America, which aims to address illegal immigration, eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from violent crime through coordinated efforts between federal agencies as well as state and local law enforcement partners under Project Safe Neighborhoods.
