Chair Joni Ernst announced on May 18 that Mapleton Hometown Variety has been named Small Business of the Week as part of her initiative to recognize a small business in each of Iowa’s 99 counties during this Congress.
“For nearly four decades, Mapleton Hometown Variety has woven into the fabric of the Mapleton community with quality products, personalized customer service, and a strong commitment to supporting local families,” said Chair Ernst. “From toys to floral arrangements, Carol has consistently led a top-notch team that continues to serve Iowans and define Iowa small businesses.”
Mapleton Hometown Variety was acquired in 1987 by Jerry Koenigs. Following his passing, his wife Carol continued operating the store. The business offers a range of products including fabric, toys, gifts, home decor, craft supplies, greeting cards, and floral arrangements for various occasions. It is known locally for its quality merchandise and welcoming shopping experience rooted in small-town values.
Chair Ernst’s recognition highlights ongoing efforts to spotlight outstanding small businesses across Iowa through her Small Business of the Week award.
The Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee supports informed decision-making on national fiscal priorities and provides Congress with comprehensive policy options on federal budget components; it also contributes to the congressional budget process via resolutions and reconciliation instructions. The committee features Lindsey Graham as chairman and Jeff Merkley as ranking member. It was established through the Congressional Budget and Impoundment Control Act of 1974 and provides nonpartisan budgetary analysis through oversight of the Congressional Budget Office, according to the official website.
