The National Federation of Independent Business released its Voting Record for the last session of the Nevada Legislature on July 23, giving voters a tool to evaluate incumbent state legislators. The report grades assembly members and senators based on their votes on bills affecting small businesses.

Tray Abney, state director for the National Federation of Independent Business in Nevada, said, “Even though the Nevada Legislature wrapped up its business last year, the election season is the best time to release our voting record to show who the real friends of small business were. The timing cuts through the noise and misinformation that increases in volume in an election year and puts those who claim to be friends of Main Street enterprises on notice that we are measuring those claims against their actions.”

Legislators were graded on nine bills that moved through both chambers, with senators also evaluated on two additional bills not considered by the Assembly. The NFIB states that details about bill numbers, descriptions, and individual votes can be found through links provided in their announcement.

Key measures included legislation concerning restaurant alcohol sales, employer-paid leave, right to repair provisions, and business licensing requirements. Among lawmakers evaluated by NFIB’s report card, twenty—fourteen from the Assembly and six from the Senate—received perfect scores supporting small businesses. Others achieved scores of 91% or 88%. The NFIB NV PAC will use these results as it decides which legislative candidates may receive endorsements from small business advocates ahead of upcoming elections.

NFIB describes itself as a nonprofit association advocating for America’s small and independent businesses at both federal and state levels since its founding in 1943.
