Afeez Olatunji Adewale, 27, of Nigeria, was sentenced on July 24 by United States District Judge Joel H. Slomsky to 60 months in prison and three years of supervised release for money laundering conspiracy and wire fraud related to the sexual extortion and death of a young man in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
United States Attorney David Metcalf said, “All three defendants have finally been brought to justice. I hope that their arrests, extradition, and prosecution make clear that the DOJ will go after those terrorizing our young people — no matter where the scammers and sextortionists may be. Though this case is now closed, our thoughts will remain with a family and community forever changed.”
Adewale was extradited from Nigeria to the United States in February after being arrested there on August 17, 2023, as part of an operation with the FBI targeting sexual extortionists. He pleaded guilty in April. The Justice Department’s Office of International Affairs, FBI Legal Attaché in Abuja, FBI agents, Nigerian security authorities including Nigeria’s Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Federal Ministry of Justice’s International Criminal Justice Cooperation Department, and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission all assisted with his extradition.

Chief Patrick Molloy of Abington Township Police Department said, “The capabilities of local police departments to expand an investigation beyond the borders of the U.S. is extremely limited. We must rely on the expertise of the FBI and other federal law enforcement partners which is exactly what occurred in this case,” adding gratitude for federal agents’ efforts while noting ongoing pain for affected families.
Adewale’s co-defendants Imoleayo Samuel Aina (aka Alice Dave), 27, and Samuel Olasunkanmi Abiodun, 26, were extradited from Nigeria in August 2024. Abiodun pleaded guilty to money laundering conspiracy and wire fraud; he was sentenced by Judge Slomsky in June 2025 to five years’ imprisonment. Aina later pleaded guilty to cyberstalking as well as other charges including interstate threat to injure reputation; he received six years’ imprisonment from Judge Slomsky in October 2025.
The investigation involved FBI Philadelphia’s Fort Washington Resident Agency along with Abington Township Police Department; Assistant United States Attorney Patrick Brown prosecuted.
