News Release: PIKEVILLE, Ky. - Justin Bryant, 38, of Shelbiana, Ky., was convicted on Friday by a federal jury in Pikeville of distributing fentanyl and para-fluorofentanyl that caused the death a victim. The jury also convicted Bryant of conspiring with others to distribute heroin, fentanyl, and para-fluorofentanyl.

News Release: PHOENIX, Ariz. - Keivin Crosswell-Cervantes, 28, of Mexico, Carlos Alberto Castro-Ruiz, 27, of Avondale, Arizona, and Alexander Ortega-Islas, 22, of Phoenix, Arizona, were indicted on October 4, 2022, on Conspiracy to Distribute Fentanyl and Methamphetamine along with Use or Carry a Firearm during a Drug Trafficking Offense. The three defendants had their initial appearance on Sept. 23, 2022, before United States Magistrate Judge Eileen S. Willett.

News Release: TUCSON, Ariz. - Gabriel Joseph Bustamante, 43, of Tucson, Arizona, was sentenced on Sept. 28, 2022by United States District Judge Rosemary Márquez to 17.5 years in prison, followed by five years of supervised release. Bustamante previously pleaded guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine and Felon in Possession of Firearms.

Romero announced that Donna Laansma, 58, of Fairless Hills, PA, was sentenced to three years in prison, three years of supervised release, and was ordered to pay full restitution by United States District Court Judge Michael M. Baylson for her scheme to embezzle over $1.8 million from her former employer, and for failing to report these fraudulently obtained earnings to the IRS.

News Release: Yakima, Washington - Vanessa R. Waldref, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington, today announced two Department of Justice grant awards to the Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Nation. The first grant allocates $1,000,000 to target violent crimes against women. The second provides $609,751 in additional federal funding to provide services to crime victims on the Yakama Nation. Both grants were awarded on Sept. 21, 2022.

Ross announced today that Louis Gilbert, 44, of Buffalo, NY, who was convicted of conspiring to possess with intent to distribute, and distributing, 500 grams or more of cocaine, was sentenced to serve 36 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara.

News Release: Earlier today, a federal jury in Brooklyn convicted Mustafa Goklu, also known as “Mustangy," of money laundering and operating an unlicensed money transmitting business as part of a scheme to launder the purported Bitcoin proceeds of drug trafficking. The verdict followed a four-day trial before United States District Judge Pamela K. Chen. When sentenced, Goklu faces up to 25 years in prison.

News Release: Tampa, Florida - U.S. District Judge William F. Jung has sentenced Baron Matson (45, Brisbane, Australia) to five years in federal prison for conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud. As part of his sentence, the court also ordered Matson to pay $4,319,762 in restitution and entered an order of forfeiture in the amount of $1,285,000, which represented proceeds of the charged criminal conduct. Matson had pleaded guilty on Aug. 23, 2022.
