Javier Cyree Tyrell Brown, 28, of Pensacola, Florida, was indicted in federal court on July 16 on multiple charges including commercial sex trafficking, financially benefiting from commercial sex trafficking, using a facility for purposes of racketeering, coercion and enticement for interstate prostitution, interstate transportation for prostitution, and conspiracy to commit money laundering. The charges were announced by John P. Heekin, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida.
Brown appeared before United States Magistrate Judge Zachary C. Bolitho at the United States Courthouse in Pensacola. His trial is scheduled for August 17 in Pensacola before District Court Judge T. Kent Wetherell II. Brown remains in custody with the United States Marshals Service pending trial.
If convicted of these charges, Brown faces a minimum mandatory sentence of 15 years up to life imprisonment. The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations along with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office and Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney David L. Goldberg is prosecuting the case.
The announcement stated, “An indictment is merely an allegation by a grand jury that a defendant has committed a violation of federal criminal law and is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial, during which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.”
This prosecution falls under Operation Take Back America—a nationwide initiative utilizing Department of Justice resources to address illegal immigration issues and combat cartels and transnational criminal organizations as well as violent crime perpetrators.
