Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow on July 23 to advance the U.S.-Thailand alliance, according to Spokesperson Tommy Pigott.
The meeting focused on enhancing defense cooperation and interoperability between U.S. and Thai forces. The leaders also discussed the importance of making progress toward an Agreement on Reciprocal Trade that would guarantee expanded market access and reflect the shared economic interests of both nations, as well as President Trump’s commitment to fair and balanced trade.
Rubio emphasized the United States’ commitment to peace and stability in Southeast Asia during the talks. He urged Sihasak to continue implementing the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accords that President Trump brokered last year.
The U.S.-Thailand alliance is built on more than 190 years of partnership, with ongoing efforts aimed at strengthening bilateral relations through defense collaboration, economic agreements, and support for regional stability.
