A federal grand jury in Topeka returned separate indictments on July 23 charging six previously deported foreign nationals with illegally returning to the United States.
According to court documents, Rodrigo Alan Castro-Sosa, 21, Omar Alejandro Hernandez-Hernandez, 31, and Jorge Luis Landin-Ramirez, 39—all from Mexico—were indicted on one count of reentry by a previously removed alien. Joaquin Morales-Diaz, 43, and Lesvia M. Lopez-Pena, 31, both from Guatemala; and Eber Reyes-Duarte, 44, from Honduras were also charged with the same offense.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement is investigating all of the cases. The announcement stated that an indictment is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
