Whiskeytown Complex June 23 Update

News Release: An early morning lightning storm ignited at least seven fires on Saturday June 21, 2008, in Whiskeytown National Recreation Area. Firefighters were able to contain three of these fires for a total of 3.5 acres. There are currently four active fires burning in the park with no estimate of containment.


Rangers Respond to Backcountry Accidents

News Release: Two backcountry accidents kept park rangers busy at Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park Sunday, June 22. Ranger Brent Mims witnessed 22 year old Daniel Dalton from Centennial, Colorado fall 20 feet while patrolling S.O.B. Gully on the North Rim of the canyon. Dalton had been attempting to climb the Casual Route when he fell at about 9:30 am. He suffered multiple injuries to the face, head, hands and arms including abrasions and bruises.

Richmond National Battlefield Park Commemorates The Seven Days that Saved Richmond

News Release: Richmond National Battlefield Park will present a series of talks, tours and living history programs to commemorate the 146th anniversary of the Seven Days Battles around Richmond. The week-long series will begin on June 26 at the Civil War Visitor Center at Tredegar Iron Works, and will end with a tour on July 1 of the Malvern Hill battlefield. Each program will begin at 7 p.m.; all battlefield tours are expected to last one and a half hours.
