Justice Department Ignores Office of Legal Counsel, Politicizes D.C. Voting Rights Bill

News Release: WASHINGTON, D.C. - House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Ranking Member (R-CA) sent a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder today calling on the Justice Department to “produce any memoranda prepared by the Office of Legal Counsel and the Solicitor General regarding the constitutionality of the D.C. voting rights bill." If the Justice declines, the letter requests a “detailed explanation" for the refusal.


News Release: On March 28, 2009, a large rockfall occurred from Ahwiyah Point near Half Dome. Rocks fell roughly 1,800 feet, knocking down hundreds of trees and burying hundreds of feet of trail on the southern portion of the Mirror Lake Loop Trail. The impact generated ground shaking equivalent to a magnitude 2.4 earthquake. Numerous smaller rockfalls have occurred from Ahwiyah Point since the initial rockfall on March 28. There were no injuries or structures affected.


News Release: Information is now available from recent visitor studies conducted by the National Park Service along the Blue Ridge Parkway. The Visitor Study Report describes the results of two surveys, one conducted in the fall of 2007 and a second survey during early summer 2008. Nearly 2,700 survey documents were distributed along the length of the 469-mile scenic motor road. Of those, 2,253 questionnaires were returned, resulting in a 74 percent response rate.

News Release: HOUSTON — IFCO Systems North America Inc., doing business as IFCO Systems, based in Houston has paid $1,602,267 in back wages to its employees after investigations by the U.S. Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division found that 1,751 employees in 17 states had not been properly paid for the overtime hours that they worked as required by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
