Niobrara Woman Sentenced for Theft in Indian Country

News Release: United States District Court Judge Joseph F. Bataillon sentenced Lila Mechaley, age 53 of Niobrara, Nebraska, upon her conviction for theft of funds on the Santee Sioux Indian Reservation. Judge Bataillon ordered Mechaley to serve five years of probation and to perform 200 hours of community service. Mechaley was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $16,726.22 to the Village of Santee.


Tonahutu Fire On West Side Of Rocky Mountain National Park

News Release: There is a small fire, approximately 5 acres, on the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park called the Tonahutu Fire. The fire is located roughly 1 mile north of Grand Lake. There are six firefighters including personnel from Rocky Mountain National Park, Arapaho National Forest and Grand Lake Fire Protection District who have been part of the initial attack plus a Type III helicopter is on scene. Two Type 2 crews and a ten person fire module have been ordered.
