News Release: Orlando, Florida - Senior U.S. District Judge G. Kendall Sharp sentenced Darrell Roby (41, Orlando) yesterday to 15 years in federal prison for possession of a firearm by a previously convicted felon. Roby was also ordered to serve a 5-year term of supervision, upon his release from prison. Roby pleaded guilty on June 2, 2014.

News Release: Bangor, Maine: United States Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II announced that Nicholas McDonald, 33, of Eddington, Maine, was sentenced today in U.S. District Court by Chief Judge John A. Woodcock, Jr. to 75 months in prison and three years of supervised release for possession with intent to distribute heroin and possession of a firearm by a felon. He pleaded guilty on March 4, 2014.

Kendall Sharp sentenced Mauricio Arbelaez (42, Haines City) to five years and three months in federal prison for smuggling goods from the United States, possessing an unregistered silencer, and possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number. Arbelaez pleaded guilty on June 25, 2014.


Park Cautions Visitors on How to Safely View Elk

News Release: Great Smoky Mountains National Park officials remind park visitors to exercise caution as they view and photograph elk so that both the animals and themselves are protected. Elk are currently entering the fall breeding season, known as the rut. During this time period, from September 1 through Oct. 31, fields in Cataloochee and Oconaluftee are closed to all use. Even if the elk are not present, people are not allowed to walk into the fields.
