The Second Anniversary of the 2020 Elections in Burma

Release: Two years ago today, people across Burma voted in credible and peaceful multiparty elections that were a milestone in the nation’s progress toward democratic governance after a half-century of military rule. While these elections reaffirmed the commitment of the people of Burma to democracy, the Burma military regime denied the will of the voters. In February 2021, it staged a coup d’état that reversed a decade of democratic progress.


A federal grand jury indicted two former Pike County, Ohio, sheriff’s deputies on civil rights crimes for using excessive force during their employment with the Pike County Sheriff’s Office.


Three defendants were sentenced today for their roles in a federal racketeering conspiracy that victimized over a dozen Mexican H-2A workers who had worked in the United States harvesting fruits, vegetables and other agricultural products between 2015 and 2017.
