The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of Transportation on July 24, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

BTS Releases Geographic Databases for 2015. The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics released the 2015 edition of the National Transportation Atlas Databases (NTAD) this week. The NTAD is a compilation of datasets representing the nation’s transportation infrastructure including more than 500,000 miles of roadway, over 610,000 bridges, and 19,527 airports. The 2015 edition also includes additional attribute information for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration highway crash data. This year’s NTAD consists of 36 data themes containing a total of 57 individual data layers, 24 of which have been updated within the last year. The NTAD also includes: the national rail network in addition to a separate subset of Amtrak rail lines only, non-attainment areas, national parks, and populated place names, among other data layers. NTAD 2015 is provided in shapefile format, which is compatible with most Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software, with International Organization for Standards (ISO) formatted metadata for all shapefiles. Following the initial release earlier this week, BTS staff distributed copies of the 2015 NTAD to attendees of the ESRI International User Conference in San Diego. These data are also available online for downloading . Contacts: Press: Dave Smallen: (202) 366-5568. For technical information and copies: Dominic Menegus: (202) 366-8717.
