CARES Act Service Exemptions for Allegiant Air, United Airlines, and Hawaiian Airlines

Today, the U.S. Department of Transportation is acting on requests from Allegiant Air, United Airlines, and Hawaiian Airlines for exemption from the CARES Act airline service obligations announced in Order 2020-4-2. Allegiant Air requests that the Department grant it an exemption to temporarily suspend service at five covered points and reduce its weekly operations at five covered points through September 30. The Department finds that granting Allegiant Air’s request, in part, is warranted, and thus, the carrier is able to suspend service and reduce its weekly frequencies at eight covered points; it is obligated to provide its minimum service obligation at St. Cloud, Minnesota and Traverse City, Michigan through Sept. 30, 2020. United Airlines requests that the Department grant it an extension from through September 30 from its service obligation at St. Thomas, USVI. The Department finds that granting United Airlines’ request is warranted and thus, United Airlines is not obligated to provide service at St. Thomas, USVI through Sept. 30, 2020. Hawaiian Airlines requests that the Department extend its exemption to suspend service temporarily to Pago Pago, American Samoa from September 1 through Sept. 30, 2020. The Department finds that granting Hawaiian Airlines’ request is warranted and thus, Hawaiian Airlines is not obligated to provide service at American Samoa through Sept. 30, 2020.
