SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA In the week ending June 18, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 429,000, an increase of 9,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 420,000. The 4-week moving average was 426,250, unchanged from the previous week's revised average of 426,250.
The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.9 percent for the week ending June 11, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate of 2.9 percent.
The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending June 11 was 3,697,000, a decrease of 1,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 3,698,000. The 4-week moving average was 3,709,500, a decrease of 5,250 from the preceding week's revised average of 3,714,750.
UNADJUSTED DATA The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 394,925 in the week ending June 18, a decrease of 5,683 from the previous week. There were 427,080 initial claims in the comparable week in 2010.
The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.8 percent during the week ending June 11, unchanged from the prior week. The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs totaled 3,475,301, a decrease of 12,192 from the preceding week. A year earlier, the rate was 3.4 percent and the volume was 4,306,402.
The total number of people claiming benefits in all programs for the week ending June 4 was 7,538,448, an increase of 137,220 from the previous week.
Extended benefits were available in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and West Virginia, during the week ending June 4.
Initial claims for UI benefits by former Federal civilian employees totaled 2,183 in the week ending June 11, an increase of 405 from the prior week. There were 2,715 initial claims by newly discharged veterans, an increase of 293 from the preceding week.
There were 23,042 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending June 4, an increase of 1,478 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 35,592, an increase of 33 from the prior week.
States reported 3,299,235 persons claiming EUC (Emergency Unemployment Compensation) benefits for the week ending June 4, an increase of 5,728 from the prior week. There were 4,727,008 claimants in the comparable week in 2010. EUC weekly claims include first, second, third, and fourth tier activity.
The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending June 4 were in Alaska (4.6 percent), Puerto Rico (4.4), Oregon (4.1), Pennsylvania (3.9), California (3.7), Nevada (3.6), Connecticut (3.5), New Jersey (3.5), Arkansas (3.2), Idaho (3.2), Illinois (3.2), Mississippi (3.2), New Mexico (3.2), Washington (3.2), and Wisconsin (3.2).
The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending June 11 were in Pennsylvania (+6,019), California (+3,884), Texas (+3,333), Georgia (+3,235), Ohio (+2,984), while the largest decreases were in Louisiana (-899), Tennessee (-851), New Mexico (-631), Kentucky (-605), and Puerto Rico (-579).
