SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA In the week ending July 7, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 350,000, a decrease of 26,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 376,000. The 4-week moving average was 376,500, a decrease of 9,750 from the previous week's revised average of 386,250.
The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.6 percent for the week ending June 30, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate.
The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending June 30 was 3,304,000, a decrease of 14,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 3,318,000. The 4-week moving average was 3,308,500, an increase of 1,250 from the preceding week's revised average of 3,307,250.
UNADJUSTED DATA The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 439,743 in the week ending July 7, an increase of 69,971 from the previous week. There were 473,963 initial claims in the comparable week in 2011.
The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.4 percent during the week ending June 30, a decrease of 0.1 percentage point from the prior week's unrevised rate. The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs totaled 3,102,691, a decrease of 42,328 from the preceding week. A year earlier, the rate was 2.8 percent and the volume was 3,534,925.
The total number of people claiming benefits in all programs for the week ending June 23 was 5,874,035, an increase of 17,011 from the previous week.
Extended benefits were available in the Idaho, Nevada, New Jersey, and Rhode Island, during the week ending June 23.
Initial claims for UI benefits by former Federal civilian employees totaled 1,446 in the week ending June 30, an increase of 36 from the prior week. There were 2,622 initial claims by newly discharged veterans, a decrease of 64 from the preceding week.
There were 15,999 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending June 23, a decrease of 464 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 38,333, a decrease of 254 from the prior week.
States reported 2,606,287 persons claiming EUC (Emergency Unemployment Compensation) benefits for the week ending June 23, a decrease of 9,842 from the prior week. There were 3,234,115 claimants in the comparable week in 2011. EUC weekly claims include first, second, third, and fourth tier activity.
The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending June 23 were in Puerto Rico (4.1), Alaska (3.9), Pennsylvania (3.8), Connecticut (3.5), California (3.4), New Jersey (3.4), Rhode Island (3.3), Illinois (3.1), Oregon (3.1), Nevada (3.0), and the Virgin Islands (3.0).
The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending June 30 were in New York (+4,473), Kentucky (+2,252), Michigan (+1,742), California (+1,045), and Oklahoma (+843), while the largest decreases were in Florida (-3,724), Texas (-2,196), Pennsylvania (-2,113), Massachusetts (-1,325), and Maryland (-806).
