WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Labor today announced a $367,956 National Emergency Grant to assist approximately 142 of the 285 workers affected by the closure of two Xerox Commercial Services LLC facilities, located in Coos Bay and North Bend, Ore., respectively.
"These former Xerox workers are faced with the challenge of finding employment that provides a livable wage," said Acting Assistant Secretary of Labor for Employment and Training Eric M. Seleznow. "As our economy continues to recover, this grant will help these workers with the re-employment services they need to face this challenge." This grant, awarded to the Oregon Department of Community College and Workforce Development , will provide assistance to the former Xerox workers in conjunction with the training and supportive services they will receive as a result of their eligibility for Trade Adjustment Assistance benefits.
National Emergency Grants are part of the secretary of labor's discretionary fund and are awarded based on a state's ability to meet specific guidelines.
