WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Labor today announced $157,430 in supplemental funding to continue the provision of employment-related services to workers affected by layoffs at the Maine Military Authority, located in Limestone, Maine.
"The workers who were laid off from the Maine Military Authority continue their efforts to secure new employment," said Assistant Secretary for Employment and Training Portia Wu. "Access to employment services through Labor Department funding is crucial to helping them succeed in today's challenging labor market." This supplemental funding, awarded to the Maine Department of Labor , will aid in the delivery of re-employment and retraining services to the affected workers.
This grant was initially approved on May 10, 2011, for $463,083. Additional supplemental awards in June 2012 and October 2013 were later approved in the amount of $406,199. Today's third supplemental funding brings the total funds awarded for this project to $1,026,712.
National Emergency Grants are part of the secretary of labor's discretionary fund and are awarded based on a state's ability to meet specific guidelines.
