Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez today released the following statement on the June employment report: “The drop in unemployment to its lowest level since September 2001 combined with more than 3.7 million new jobs created since May 2003 and other recent positive economic indicators shows that President Bush’s pro-growth policies are driving a strong American economy. We have seen steady job gains and there are more Americans working today than at any time in our history.
"This administration will work to continue to grow the economy and create more American jobs by working toward opening new markets for U.S. products, lessening dependence on foreign sources of energy, lowering health care costs and strengthening the social security system for our children and grandchildren.”
