Gutierrez Statement on Consumer Price Index

Gutierrez Statement on Consumer Price Index

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of Commerce on Dec. 15, 2005. It is reproduced in full below.

The drop in the consumer price index for the month of November showed a substantial decline in consumer price inflation. This is a continuation of the good economic news Americans have seen and yet another sign that inflation is under control. The President’s economic policies are working for American businesses and they are helping American workers find high paying jobs.

The combination of wage increases, workers taking home more of their hard earned money, and a decline in the consumer price index are having a very positive effect on our economy.

“Despite the challenges that our economy has faced, we have experienced 30 consecutive months of job growth, have created nearly 4.5 million jobs since May 2003 and have seen a GDP growth average of 4.1 percent since May 2003. American workers and companies should be proud of this great achievement.
