Statement by Deputy U.S. Commerce Secretary Rebecca Blank on the Reauthorization of the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006

“The blueprint reauthorizing the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act will enhance America’s ability to support innovation and competitiveness critical to ensuring students have the skills necessary for 21st century jobs,” said Deputy U.S. Commerce Secretary Rebecca Blank. “Commerce’s America COMPETES report, which looked at the economic competitiveness and innovative capacity of the U.S., underscores the necessity of encouraging students and workers to pursue education in science, technology, engineering or mathematics fields. We must keep up efforts like those announced today in order to sustain our economic recovery and ensure America has a globally competitive workforce.”
