Bolivia’s Independence Day

The following press release was published by the Antony J. Blinken, Secretary of State on Aug. 6, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

On behalf of the Government of the United States and the American people, I congratulate the people of Bolivia on the 196th anniversary of your independence.

The United States and Bolivia have long maintained important cultural and economic ties, and we have built our relationship on the democratic values our people share. We have strengthened our sense of solidarity and the bonds between our countries in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. The United States provided approximately $7 million in support to the Bolivian health sector, including the recent donation of more than one million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine through COVAX. We will continue to work together to overcome this global pandemic and accelerate our region’s economic recovery.

On this anniversary of Bolivia’s independence, the United States expresses its respect for the Bolivian people’s commitment to democratic and participative values, including inclusion, freedom of expression, and the protection of human rights and due process for all, under the rule of law. We continue to build on our close relationship with Bolivia and look forward to working together, realizing our shared goals of inclusive and equitable economic prosperity.
