FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE WEDNESDAY, JUNE 5, 2002 WWW.USDOJ.GOV AG (202) 514-2008 TDD (202) 514-1888 WASHINGTON, D.C. - Attorney General John Ashcroft issued the following statement today in response to the return of James Charles Kopp to the United States: "Today, Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation brought Top Ten Fugitive James Charles Kopp back to the United States to stand trial on federal and state charges in connection with the murder of Dr. Barnett Slepian in 1998. Kopp's return to the United States would not have been possible without the cooperation of the French government and law enforcement, who arrested Kopp last year. We are grateful to France for their assistance in this case and their ongoing cooperation in criminal investigations." 02-335
