The Justice Department announced today that a federal court has permanently barred Beverly J. and Darrell J. Hill, of Mesa, Arizona, from preparing federal income tax returns for others. The permanent injunction order, entered by Judge David G. Campbell of the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona, also requires the Hills to remove from their website all information advertising their services as tax preparers, to post to the website a copy of the permanent injunction entered against them, and to give the government a list identifying their customers and their customers' addresses, phone numbers, and taxpayer identification numbers.
According to the court's order, the defendantsoperating under the names Superior Claims Management and www.getmytaxesback.comrecruited customers by promising to recover previously-paid past taxes for a fee of 25% of any refund received. The order states that the defendants prepared at least 252 federal income tax returns that sought refunds based on the position that taxpayers' wages are not taxable income under the Internal Revenue Code.
