Statement from Head of the Civil Rights Division Vanita Gupta Regarding District Court’s Approval of Consent Decree with City of Ferguson, Missouri

Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Vanita Gupta, head of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, released the following statement regarding the ruling issued by U.S. District Judge Catherine D. Perry of the Eastern District of Missouri approving the department’s consent decree with the city of Ferguson, Missouri: “Now that the consent decree has been approved by the court, the department is looking forward to working with the city of Ferguson as it implements the decree and continues the essential work to create a police department that the Constitution requires and that residents deserve.”
