The Department of Transportation (DOT) has issued a fact sheet that details the projected effects of the recently signed bipartisan infrastructure deal, stating it will make transportation systems more equitable.
The bill passed last week in Congress will rebuild roads and bridges across the country as part of efforts to improve infrastructure.
“The bipartisan infrastructure deal is a generational investment in America’s transportation network. It will allow the nation to modernize its infrastructure, making it safer and more resilient,” DOT wrote in the fact sheet Nov. 10.
According to the sheet, one of the major effects of the deal will be to reduce highway and bridge backlogs for major repairs by almost 20%. It also promises to fix up to 10 of the most economically significant bridges in the nation and repair more than 15,000 smaller bridges across the country.
Among other efforts, the department states the bill will create 500,000 EV chargers by 2023, reconnect up to 20 communities by redesigning streets and interstates, increase traffic fatality strategies and replace more than 10,000 fossil fuel-powered transit vehicles with cleaner electric or low emission transit vehicles.
The DOT is prepared to implement the infrastructure deal, stating the measure will help states, counties, local government, transit agencies, railways, airports and ports when it comes to improved mobility.
