For Immediate Release DHS Press Office Contact: 202-282-8010 PHOENIX—Today, Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas was in Phoenix, Ariz. where he delivered keynote remarks at the 8th Annual Border Security Expo, highlighting the Department’s efforts to secure the border while facilitating lawful travel and trade.

During his remarks, Deputy Secretary Mayorkas thanked the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) personnel for their hard work every day to secure nearly 6,000 miles of land borders, over 2,000 miles of coastal waters, and 328 ports of entry. Deputy Secretary Mayorkas also highlighted the Department’s efforts to find a more nimble and efficient approach to securing the Southwest border, while investing unprecedented resources in border operations.

While in Phoenix, Deputy Secretary Mayorkas also visited CBP and Transportation Security Administration personnel who facilitate over one million passengers traveling through our nation’s airports every day, while at the same time protect the traveling public from threats and hazards of all kinds.

Deputy Secretary Mayorkas also met with state and local law enforcement officials to underscore the Department’s commitment to working closely with them to secure the border and keep border communities safe.
