Statement by Secretary Johnson on the National Cybersecurity and Critical Infrastructure Protection Act

The following press release was published by the US Department of Homeland Security on July 30, 2014. It is reproduced in full below.

For Immediate Release DHS Press Office Contact: 202-282-8010 I am pleased that on Monday the House of Representatives passed H.R. 3696, the National Cybersecurity Infrastructure Protection Act. I regard this legislation as a positive step forward for our Nation's cybersecurity. Among other things, it codifies this Department's authority to collaborate on cybersecurity with those responsible for the country's critical infrastructure. This will assist the Department in responding to cyber incidents quicker and more effectively. I salute Congressman Mike McCaul and Congressman Bennie Thompson for their bipartisan leadership on cybersecurity, and their stewardship of H.R. 3696 through the House to passage. I urge members of Congress in both the House and Senate to build on this important progress and pass legislation that aligns with the Administration’s legislative proposal to protect our nation’s cybersecurity while preserving strong privacy and civil liberties protections.
