For Immediate Release DHS Press Office Contact: 202-282-8010 WASHINGTON — Today, Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson met with French Minister of Interior Bernard Cazeneuve on the margins of the White House Summit on Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) to discuss a range of shared global security-related priorities, including counterterrorism, foreign fighters, and the importance of information sharing in the aftermath of the tragic terrorist incidents in Paris in January. Secretary Johnson expressed support for the government and citizens of France, and reinforced the importance of the U.S.- European security relationship in joint counterterrorism efforts.
During the meeting, Secretary Johnson emphasized that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) routinely shares information with international law enforcement and our intelligence and homeland security partners, to ensure our collective security. He reiterated the Department’s efforts to engage with its counterterrorism allies on the issues of identifying and interdicting terrorist travel, continuing cooperation between our law enforcement agencies, and advancing aviation security.
Minister Cazeneuve is in Washington at the invitation of the White House to attend the Summit on Countering Violent Extremism, which the Minister and Secretary Johnson attended earlier in the week. Secretary Johnson affirmed the importance of CVE efforts and highlighted best practices learned from the Summit. The Department will continue to work with our international partners to combat violent extremism around the world.

Since the tragic events in Paris in January, Secretary Johnson has traveled to London and Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas has traveled to France to meet with their international counterparts and discuss common efforts to prevent foreign terrorist travel.
