For Immediate Release DHS Press Office Contact: 202-282-8010 WASHINGTON — Today, Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson met with Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Rumyana Bachvarova to discuss a variety of homeland security related priorities, and reiterate the commitment of the United States to work collaboratively with Bulgaria to share information, combat common threats, and improve bilateral cooperation.

During the meeting, Secretary Johnson and Minister Bachvarova signed an agreement to strengthen bilateral security cooperation, common security standards, and implement UN Security Council Resolution 2178 (2014) concerning the detection and prevention of the travel of Foreign Terrorist Fighters. In 2012, the United States and Bulgaria signed the Preventing and Combating Serious Crime Agreement, which allows for the exchange of data between the United States and Bulgaria regarding suspected criminals and terrorists to bolster counterterrorism and law enforcement cooperation efforts while protecting individual privacy.
