For Immediate Release DHS Press Office Contact: 202-282-8010 On behalf of Secretary Jeh Johnson, who is currently traveling overseas, our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of Lawrence Buckner, a Master Security employee contracted to the Federal Protective Service. Mr. Buckner died in the line of duty late last night at the Suitland Federal Facility in Maryland.

This senseless act of violence reminds us of the risks the men and women who work on the front lines to protect our federal facilities, and so many across the Department of Homeland Security, face every day as they work to protect the public and our homeland.

This is an ongoing criminal investigation. I commend the Federal Protective Service, Prince George’s County Police Department, FBI and DC Metropolitan Police Department for their prompt response that possibly saved many innocent bystanders from harm. We thank them for their valiant service. Crime,Federal Protective Service (FPS),
