Readout Of Deputy Secretary Mayorkas' Trip To China

For Immediate Release DHS Press Office Contact: 202-282-8010 On Nov. 12-13, Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas traveled to Beijing for meetings with high-level Chinese Government officials. During the meetings, Deputy Secretary Mayorkas and his counterparts discussed cybersecurity issues ahead of the first U.S.-China Ministerial Dialogue on Cybercrime and Related Issues, scheduled for Dec. 1-2, 2015.

On Nov. 12, Deputy Secretary Mayorkas and Chinese Vice Minister for Public Security Chen Zhimin chaired a working group to review ongoing case cooperation, to discuss guidelines for bilateral information exchanges related to requests for information and assistance concerning malicious cyber activities.

While in Beijing, Deputy Secretary Mayorkas also met with Secretary of the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission Meng Jianzhu, Minister of Public Security and State Councilor Guo Shengkun, and Vice Minister of Public Security Meng Hongwei to discuss shared concerns. These include cybersecurity, repatriation of Chinese nationals illegally present in the United States, counterterrorism, and U.S. and China Coast Guard cooperation.
