Johnson today hosted the Official Portrait Unveiling Ceremony in honor of former Secretary Janet Napolitano, who served as the nation’s third Secretary of Homeland Security from Jan. 20, 2009 to September 6, 2013.
“Secretary Napolitano led the Department through some of its greatest challenges,” said Secretary Johnson. “She left behind a stronger, more integrated homeland security enterprise, and a more prepared American public. On behalf of the men and women of DHS, and on behalf of the American people, we thank her for her extraordinary service to the Department of Homeland Security.” The official portrait, painted by Chris Saper, was commissioned by Secretary Napolitano and presented to the Department as a gift. The portrait will be displayed in the hallway of the Office of the Secretary at DHS Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
