BOISE, IDAHO – As part of a comprehensive, science-based strategy to address the threat of wildfires that are damaging landscapes across the West, the Department of the Interior will release the National Seed Strategy for Rehabilitation and Restoration Monday, August 17 at the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Regional Seed Warehouse in Boise, Idaho.
The strategy will help foster resilient and healthy landscapes important to wildlife and to our economy by guiding ecological restoration, especially for those lands -- such as sagebrush habitat -- damaged by large rangeland fires.
BLM Deputy Director Steve Ellis will make the announcement on behalf of the Interior Department.
BLM Director Neil Kornze launched the seed initiative in June 2014 by convening federal partners, states, scientists and other key stakeholders. More than 300 public and private partners have collaborated on the effort, which aims to ensure that the nation's most important wildlife and ecosystem restoration opportunities are being addressed through coordinated, cooperative efforts.
